About: Therapy at PFP

Piedmont Family Psychology offers individual therapy, behavioral parent training, family therapy, and co-parenting support. Often, our work with families ends up including several of these services. We will work with you to plan what works best.

Reaching Out

If you’re interested in starting therapy with Dr. Lerner or Dr. Levine, let us know through phone, email, or text, whichever works best for you. From there, we’ll arrange a (free) quick chat to ensure we’re a good fit. If so, we’ll then enroll you in our online portal and schedule you for an intake.

Getting Started

All therapy starts with an intake session, which typically lasts 60 minutes. During this time, we’ll ask questions about you and/or your child’s background, primary concerns, and goals for therapy. At the end of this session, we will discuss treatment recommendations and scheduling. For children under 18, the intake session is for caregivers only. For separated families, our goal is to include all primary caregivers––please let us know if you would prefer joint or separate intakes.

If this is your first time in therapy or you or your child are feeling nervous, please let us know! We work hard to make our space feel welcoming, and it is always helpful to know your comfort coming in to see us.

About Our Sessions

The majority of therapy sessions are either 45 or 60 minutes. If your child is younger or new to therapy, we generally recommend starting with a 45-minute session. You will also work with your therapist to plan the frequency of your visits––many clients begin attending weekly or twice a month then decrease their frequency over time. As both Dr. Levine and Dr. Lerner see many school-age clients, after-school hours fill up quickly. If your child attends a school that dismisses earlier than others, please let us know! We try to protect the later spots for families who most need them.

Payment & Fees

Payment is due at the time of visit. We accept credit card, debit card, or HSA/FSA payments for services rendered. Below is a list of our fees:

  • Initial Intake (60 minutes) – $220

  • 60-Minute Therapy Session – $210

  • 45-Minute Therapy Session – $185

  • 30-Minute Therapy Session – $130

We also reserve a small number of spots on a sliding scale and occasionally supervise doctoral students who see clients at a reduced rate. Let us know if you are interested in one of these options.

Insurance Information

We are out-of-network providers, meaning we do not accept insurance. However, many insurance companies provide out-of-network reimbursement for mental health services. If this is true for you, we are happy to provide an electronic superbill you can submit for possible reimbursement. To learn more about your coverage, we recommend asking your insurance company the following questions:

  • What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health?

  • Is this separate from my in-network deductible?

  • Is there a maximum number of sessions for the year?

  • At what rate will I be reimbursed for out-of-network services?

  • How do I submit a claim for reimbursement?
